The Boat

Happy Times is a 41-foot, twin diesel custom sportfisher built by Concorde Yachts.  She is fully USCG Licensed and Insured for up to six passengers.

On the back-deck there is a Rybovich Fighting Chair to accommodate our full range of 30# to 130# test Penn International Reels on brand new custom rods (built by Australian rod maker, Chris Allott-Rodgers, owner of Southern Cross of Kona Rod & Reels).  When lure fishing we have a full range of only the world's best Lures from top makers such as Moody Blues, Marlin Magic, Joe Yee, Cogins and Bomboy.  Our tackle is always IGFA ready to accommodate all experience levels of angler.  We also have Lee’s Outriggers and full operating Tuna Tower to aid in finding your fish.

Happy Times is well equipped with all the latest electronics by both Furuno and Sitex.  Her main Cabin is totally open to the back deck and you have an unobstructed view of all the fishing action.  Climb up to the roomy Bridge for even better view of your trophy fish coming in to strike!

Since April 2004, Happy Times has been wonderfully enhanced. She has two new Cummins 6BTA 315hp six cylinder motors, new fresh water tanks, plumbing and a new cabin floor.

Captain

Capt. Chris Armstrong grew up fishing in the Hawaiian Islands and caught his first Marlin at the age of 11, a 546 pound Pacific Blue, off the Kona Coast. “I knew then what it was I wanted to do in life and couldn’t wait to get my Captain's License.”

Capt. Chris fished both Honolulu and Kona for years before settling down in Kona in 1983.  Over the years, Capt. Chris has acquired quite a repertoire of fishing techniques from some of the best in the business.  These are the techniques needed in locating, hooking and landing all of the sport-fish offered here.

“I enjoy learning different ways of attracting these fish to bite. Trying different methods over the years from captains, crews and anglers from here and around the globe keeps things interesting and fun.  I feel once one thinks they know everything about this game, it’s time to change games.  This is a constant learning field out here, and as more and more places in the world are opening Marlin fisheries, there can only be more to learn and teach."

Capt. Chris’ main goal is customer satisfaction.  “Our charters are based on what it is the customer wants to catch not what we want to catch."  We encourage all ages of anglers to come out and experience the thrill of Big Game Fishing.  “Not everyone wants to catch a Marlin, so we cater to what the customer wants to fish for.”
